One of the advertising highlights of the year has to be the release of the John Lewis Christmas advert. It announces the unofficial start of the festive season in the UK with a tear jerker, heart-warming ohhhh how cute moment that emotionally touches all ages and all genders. As an immigrant to the UK I first became aware of the institution that is the John Lewis Christmas advert during 2010 release which headlined rising star Ellie Goulding singing the cover of Your Song. This year’s advert, released today tells “the story of a little girl called Bridget who loves to bounce. When her mum and dad buy her a trampoline for Christmas, they soon discover that she isn’t the only one with a passion for jumping.”
There’s not much that is futurist about this post other than after the political disruptions this week, the John Lewis Christmas advert allows for some festive season escapism and reminds us to remember what is truly important in life – family and friends.
To all our clients and community out there have a fantastic festive season. As a little “gift” I’ve included a few of the past John Lewis christmas adverts below. My favourite is 2012’s The Journey, it’s a very special advert. Enjoy watching and don’t forget the kleenex ultra soft.
