Last week I presented to the Proctor & Gamble Alumni Chapter in Geneva. The chairman for the event was Kevin Roberts the worldwide CEO for the advertising company Saatchi & Saatchi.
In one of his comments he said something brilliant.
He spoke about this being a VUCA world. It is can be seen as:
Volatile
Uncertain
Complex
Ambiguous
or you can see it as
Vibrant
Unreal
Crazy
Awesome
The truth lies in how you think about it.

I think that the world is Vibrant, Unreal, Crazy, Awesome AND Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous. I believe that our thoughts and action today determine our tomorrow and agree that the truth lies in how you think about it, instinctively I focus on the brighter context of VUCA, but the darker context serves purpose too. Embracing both is important, we need both to keep a healthy perspective, not just to ensure we appreciate the all that is bright, but for all the underlying gifts hidden in the darker view. I would propose 80% VUCA bright and 20% VUCA dark. Dean, I would love to know more about your presentation Brave New World!
