TRANSCIPT
Welcome to Throw Forward Thursday. My name is Graeme Codrington, and every Thursday, we jump into the future and see what’s going on there. For the next few weeks, I’m going to go outside of my studio and into the world.
Next week, you’ll see especially why I’m going to Dubai, to the Expo 2020, and I’ll be able to be your window in the future while I’m there. But today, what I thought I’d do is just talk about being the plumber of the future.
I want to show you the problem that I had. I’ve got a two story house. This is how high the gutters are and the gutter was leaking up at the top. In fact, it was leaking through the ceiling.
And we didn’t know what the problem was. We had to call a plumber out to come and check it out. And he had to get an incredibly high ladder in order to get up there. Risk his life, I think, to get up and see what the problem was. And as it happens, there was blockage in the gutter that he had to clear.
But I wondered if the plumber of the future, instead of bringing a ladder, might bring a drone and literally throw the drone up into the air, fly it around with a camera on it. Looking into my gutters, he’d been able to see immediately what the problem was. And then, of course, he would have been able to send a little robot climbing up the drain spout this time, a robot that was equipped with probably Princess jaws on the front, which could have just chomped through the problem that was sitting in the gutter.
Everything would have been cleared. I think that the plumbers, the electricians, the tradesmen of the future are going to be high tech.
I think that the plumbers, electricians, trademen of the future are going to be high tech. Are going to be using internet equipped drones and robotics and other tools in their jobs. The trademen of the future are going to be high tech.
It’s something that everybody should consider. I don’t know about you. I’ve never met a plumber, an electrician, or anybody who works in the trades who’s got time on their hands. They’re busy all day, every day. And when they can start using high tech tools, they can even up their fees even more.
Probably shouldn’t be saying this plumber charges a fortune already, but good for him. Gets the job done. And in the future, we’ll get it done with technology, too.
Thank you for joining me for this quick jump into the future and testing out a different style of Throw Forward Thursday outside the studio.
Join me next week at the Dubai Expo 2020 when we jump into the future and see what’s happening there.
