Gizmodo has just notified us that the PS3 is available on pre-order from Amazon.com.
My mom never let me get a PS1 – said it would interfere with my schoolwork.
My wife won’t let me get a PS2 – something about “but I’ll never see you!”. Can’t imagine why.
No-one is stopping me from getting one of these babies!
Behold… the PS3
One of the reasons the PS3 is so important, is that it is part of a “Trojan Horse” strategy being employed equally by Sony, Ninendo and Microsoft. These games consoles are being primarily used for gaming right now (obviously!), but the long term goal of putting a beast like this in your home is for it to become the heart of a home server unit. Through these units, you will be able to control the digital home of the future, managing other devices, connecting to the outside world, etc. These gaming units will become the “grunt” in the system, providing much, much more than games.
So, Mike, just be certain you know what you’re buying when you go out and get PS3. You’re welcoming Big Brother into your home, and paying him for the privilege 🙂
